Firstly,Janaki is a project to promote conscious & sustainable living. This is a very spacious store on two floors. They stock garments, pottery & beauty products.
Garments from Auroville@Janaki
As a matte of fact, the garments are designed and manufactured in Auroville.For example, there are jackets, tops, palazzo pants & skirts. Designer Upasana and her collection are prominently showcased. They are made of premium cotton with attractive prints.
Ayurvedic Home Care Products@Janaki
For instance, face creams, bath & body, skin care& aromatherapy products are in stock. In addition, speciality teas are also available.
Janaki-Furniture in Pondicherry
On the first floor there is furniture. Dining tables and consoles. As a matter of fact, trees that were uprooted during the severe cyclone have been used. Further, the wood is Acacie – (Acacie auriculiformis). Each piece of wood is carefully sanded and wax polished to heighten the golden colour.
Wooden Jars & Bowls
Further,they also stock bowls and jars made from Rohida wood. Rohida is a rare, dense grained wood.The Rohida tree is self propagating. Bowls and vessels made from this wood are supposed to be hygienic and were apparently used by Jain monks. Tibetan style lacquered offering bowls are very attractive.In addition, there is a huge section of pottery from Auroville on display. There are tea pots and cups, coasters and plates .
