What is Mirror Inlay?

Pietra dura is an Italian phrase for “hard stone” or “semi-precious stone”. It is used to refer to the technique of creating inlaid pictures from coloured stones. This is commonly referred to as Mirror Inlay Work.

For example, quartzes, chalcedonies, agates, porphyries, jaspers and petrified woods are used in this work. The designs include floral motifs, plants, natural settings and geometric shapes.
