 The National Capital Territory , Delhi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delhi) was also known as Shajahanabad, Indraprastha , and so on in the past. It is a historic city, dating back to the epic Mahabharata. It is dotted with world heritage monuments. The Red Fort,Humayun’s Tomb & the Qutub Minar are UNESCO sites.  The Mughal rulers   and the British rulers have built exquisite monuments to mark their reign. The British made this city the capital city in the year 1911.The capital of British India was moved from Calcutta (now Kolkata). Lutyens’ Delhi-New Delhi

This is a central area and it is  named after the British architect Edwin Lutyens. He was responsible for much of the architectural design in this part. Besides, Herbert Baker designed the Secretariat Buildings (North and South Block). Additionally, he designed bungalows on the then King George’s Avenue (south of the Secretariats) for high-ranking officials. All these historical events have played a significant role in this magnifiicent city.

Connaught Place

Connaught Place (CP)is a circular market designed by British architects and named after the Duke of Connaught. This was once the financial capital & the centre of shopping in Delhi.  However, newer shopping places in Delhi have taken the spotlight now.Also, the financial center has  moved to Gurgaon . In addition, Janpath, in the vicinity of Connaught Place( one of the radial roads from CP) , offers a great street shopping experience. The CCI (Central Cottage industries) in Janpath, has handicrafts  & textiles from all over India on display. It is a huge shop.

Besides, Baba Kharak Singh Marg has a row of Government emporia stocking products from various Indian States.Do not miss a visit to these shops.

Khan Market & South Extension Market

Khan Market, near the Lodhi Gardens, is a stylish shopping market. There are bookshops and coffee shops and there is luxury shopping.  It is very popular with the expat crowd.The South Extension Market is another popular market in South Delhi for bridal wear and jewellery.

A visit to other shopping places such as Lajpat Nagar Market & Sarojini Nagar Market will introduce you to street shops and products that are cheap & reasonably priced.
