Chamba Lama – Kolkata
Chamba Lama is one of the oldest silver jewellery shops in Kolkata. The shop has been in business for more than 50 years. The jewellery is distinctly Tibetan and North Eastern in design.
There is more than jewellery in this shop though. The trays of earrings, rings and bracelets are very interesting. Metals such as copper, brass & silver are beaten & moulded into attractive designs.
For a jewellery lover, Chamba Lama shop is truly irresistible. Animal shapes are easily crafted into earrings & pendants. Kadas or thick bangles worn by the Bengali women are also available here. Further, there are strings of beads & chunky pendants. They can be customised to make bespoke necklaces.
The Shop
Chetanyangjom Sherpa first came to Calcutta as a girl of about 13 from the Darjeeling hills to trade in Tibetan curios and stayed on to open Chamba Lama.
