Balucheri Silk Sarees @Priya Gopal Bishoyi
The Baluchari silk saree is characterised by reproduction of scenes from Mythology. Epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata are popular. In addition, scenes from marriage festivities such as a bride riding in a palanquin & local musicians at work. For instance, all this is reproduced in the pallu of the saree. At times, gold and silver threads are also used in the embroidery work. This gives the sarees a royal and aristocratic look and feel.
Bomkai is a traditional weave from the State of Odisha. Zardosi, embroidery and sequin work on silk sarees is preferred. Sarees with rich pallus and borders are the traditional favourites in Priya Gopal Bishoyi.
