If there is one Jaipur shop that you should not miss when there is a wedding in the family, or if you want a traditional Rajasthani Saree, it is Ranas, located in Johari Bazar. They have a smaller branch in Ganpati plaza.
In a way, Jaipur shopping is defined by this shop as they stock all the traditional fabrics & designs. One of the most well known shops, it sells traditional bridal lehangas and sarees in a wide range of fabrics, design and fashion. You can select from georgette, net, chiffon, satin and silk with embroidery, sequence work, Zardosi work and gottapatti work (silver /gold zari applique work). The range is fascinating and extremely colorful with bright pinks, reds, blues, greens and yellow in profusion.
Leheriya and bandhej, the very traditional Rajasthani tye and dye design techniques, are present in many of the garment pieces. Grand ornate bridal lehangas can also be ordered. It takes anywhere between 2-4 months for an intricate lehenga piece to be created. The measurements are all noted in Marwadi (local) language.
In the ground floor are traditional sarees in Kota chiffon, georgette and crepe with zardosi, sequins and embroidery work. You will also find salwar suitpieces in traditional designs in this floor.
Ranas is one of the best Jaipur shops for traditional bridal lehengas.
