STAR GLAMOUR AT CANNES FESTIAVL

The Cannes festival or the Cannes Film Festival, also known as Festival de Cannes, is a prestigious international film festival held annually in Cannes, France. The 78th edition took place from May 13-24, 2025. Actors, directors & producers from all over the world come together to promote their films and share the same space. As a matter of fact, there is an international jury to select the best film, in addition to prizes for the Best Actor, Actress, Best Director & Best Screenplay & so on. The languages, the  story, the script & the direction could be varied but cinema as a medium of creative entertainment is celebrated here .

In addition, there is Red Carpet glamour. Here are some of the best of Indian show stoppers at Cannes.

Jahnavi Kapoor at Cannes Festival

Jahnavi Kapoor in a custom Tarun Tahiliani ensemble. A skirt & a corset blouse with real tissue from Banaras. This was set off with variety of pearl strings. As a matter of fact, Jahnavi Kapoor was there to promote her film Homebound.

Jahnavi Kapoor showcases an Anamika Khanna creation. A mint green skirt with a heavily embroidered gold worked backless top. Further, the back was adorned with a beautiful custom necklace with jade & jadao work. Chunky bracelets or kadas & jumkas completed the look.

This is a YSL gown from the Rive Gauche collection. It is a halter dress in black with Miu Miu shades, complemented with earrings from Birdichand Ganshyamdas, Jaipur and a mini black Hermes bag. Stylish evening look isn’t it ?

Sharmila Tagore wears an emerald saree with a gold border. In other words, it is a timeless classic Chanderi saree. This was matched with delicate green earrings & pendant. The gold clutch was a perfect accessory. They attended the screening of Aranyer Din Ratri by Satyajit Ray. It was a Bengali film released in 1970 in India.

Aishwarya Rai at Cannes Festival

Aishwarya Rai wore a classic handwoven Kadwa ( a weaving technique)Banarasi saree with a full sleeved blouse. In addition, it had a couture gown silhouette & a tissue drape. This had gold embroidery & sequin detailing. It was designer Manish Malhotra’s creation.

Further, rubies from Mozambique & diamond strings contrasted the pristine white.

Aishwarya adorns a custom dress by designer Gaurav Gupta. The designer mentions that the whole look was  that of a galactic sculpture-quiet, controlled & luminous. The embroidery on the dress was a combination of constellations & meteors-an abstract rendition of the cosmos in silver, gold & charcoal thread work with micro glass crystals. In addition, the cape worn by Aishwarya had a sloka or verse from the Bhagavad Gita. “कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि।” . The translated meaning “You have the right to work only but never to its fruits. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.

Alia Bhatt at Cannes Festival

Alia Bhatt wore a dress in a silver mesh fabric adorned with Swarovski crystals with the GG Gucci Monogram. It had a skirt & a top bodice with a flowing dramatic drape. Was it a gown or was it a saree? It was iconic & first of its kind. In other words, it was a take on the Indian saree.

As a matter of fact, Alia is the 1st Indian Gucci brand ambassador.

Alia Bhatt in a Schiaparelli light pink/ivory bodycon dress with floral detailing. The minimal jewellery was from Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas. Maison Schiaparelli is a Haute Couture, Ready to Wear Brand from Paris. for example, it was originally started by an Italian Elsa Schiaparelli.

This is Alia Bhatt in a sunflower yellow dress by Gucci. It has a pencil skirt with a cropped jacket & a matching corset top. In addition it has a a floral headscarf. For instance, the Gucci glasses & Chopard earrings are accessories to the dress. There is also a Bamboo 1947 bag to complete the picture.
