Mehta Emporium

Located in the first floor of the Hetal Arch building, you will simply not expect how such a wonderful showroom is tucked away from plain sight. Built with eclectic interiors, the store which started by primarily offering exquisite jewellery has now grown into a complete bridal house catering to both jewellery and trousseau needs for the bride-to-be. While this shopper was first taken through their regular collection, the truly exquisite pieces in the store came to light when Mr. Nakshtra Mehta (owner of the store) himself started showing some of the best pieces in the store. Being highly knowledgeable of his craft, he personally took time out to guide us through the gemstone and diamond jewellery in the store. From taking through the details of ethically sourced diamond jewellery by Forevermark to the detailed in-house craftsmanship going behind the gem storne jewellery, we learned quite a lot about the intricacies in the jewellery available at Mehta Emporium. The most attractive collection in the store is the kundan jadau pieces which are in the 2 Lakh plus range. The necklaces , braceltes and bangles are truly exquisite . Mehta Emporium launched the ‘Rare Heritage’ brand which now has a celebrity following and caters to complete needs of a bride-to-be. Bollywood actress Asin sported jewellery from the brand during her wedding reception. Actresses like Karisma Kapoor and Dia Mirza too have modelled for the brand. The term Santa Cruz comes from the Portuguese words meaning “Holy Cross”, a reference to a 150-year-old Cross located on Chapel lane in Santacruz. The then British Government set up RAF Santacruz, a military airfield, in 1942. It was home to several RAF squadrons during World War II from 1942 to 1947. The airfield was transferred to the Indian Government for civilian use upon Independence and came to be known as Santa Cruz airport, the city’s main airport. Let’s find out what Santa Cruz market is famous for.

Best Bridal Wear Dresses in Santa Cruz Market

You can certainly find some of the best Mumbai shops for wedding wear dresses in this market. There is a row of popular shops at a particular junction.

Roopkala, Kalki, MirrorMagic are situated in the main SV (Swami Vivekanand) Road in the Santacruz Market. Samrat, Seasons and Aishwarya Design Studio are on the Station Road, which is perpendicular to the main road.

There is also TribhovanDas Bhimji Zaveri, one of the top jewelery houses of India, which is situated on SV Road.

Santa Cruz Market Shopping

The main SV Road is a busy thoroughfare and parking is a challenge. There is the Sacred Heart Boys High School and Sacred Heart Church on this road. The Station Road is even more crowded with shops lined on either side of the road. There are shops for costume /imitation jewellery, cotton dresses & tops, cotton nighties and baby’s and children’s dresses and of course utensils and all household plastic goods. Mumbai shopping for footwear, shoes and sandals can also be done here.

The jootis or the traditional Indian footwear are available in plenty. They are closed shoes with some patterns on the top. While there are several street shops and the prices there are very reasonable, the quality of the products is not guaranteed. Caveat Emptor is the policy that is practiced. The garments and sandals could last a season. There would be no guarantee beyond that.

Further, there are several autos that ply the route to & fro from the Santacruz station. The vehicles travel at great speed and pedestrians are advised to be careful while walking here. This road is chaotic and noisy.
