On the way to the station from the main SV Road in Santa Cruz, Mumbai, there is a shop known as Samrat on the right side.

Samrat is a fairly big shop. It is a two storied shop for ethnic Indian wear dresses such as palazzo pants, salwar kameez and lehenga cholis. It is an old & trusted shop and local residents shop in Samrat for wedding and casual wear dresses. Santacruz residents have the luxury of shopping in Samrat, Aishwarya Design Studio, Roopkala, Seasons, Kalki or Magic Mirror. All these shops stock a great variety of wedding wear dresses.

  • Bandra is one of Mumbai’s popular and posh localities. One of the major attractions that makes Bandra popular is the Hill Road Shopping Market . This shopping market is similar to the Janpath and Sarojini Nagar street shopping markets in Delhi. Hill Road (officially renamed as Ramdas Nayak Road) is an arterial road in Bandra .It stretches from the Bandra Railway Station road and S.V(Swami Vivekanand ) Road to the Mehboob Studios, leading to the Bandstand Promenade, the Bandra Fort & the Mount Mary church. There are hardware shops and few small restaurants as you enter Hill road. Lucky restaurant known for its biryani and Happy Book Store are important landmarks . Starting from the Marks and Spencer store building to the St. Peter’s Church are some of the best shops on Hill Road . Hill Road can be divided into three prominent areas , namely , the Sona Shopping Centre, the Elco Market, and the standalone shops. The Sona Shopping Centre has readymade garment shops, lingerie shops and tailoring establishments .Shops in the back lane stock tunics and casual wear dresses that are primarily export rejects. The Elco Arcade Center has ethnic wear shops . They have restaurants and food stalls in between the shopping markets and these are always crowded . The area is famous for its paani puri and chaat shops . Like any other street market, Hill Road reflects the local culture of Mumbai and its people. Gandhi Market

  • Situated in the relatively quiet corner of Mumbai, Gandhi Market offers a shopping getaway to locals who are looking for bargain shopping options for clothes, jewellery and accessories. It is located right outside the Kings Circle train station and is a taxi ride away from Dadar or Sion. Gandhi Market is also located right opposite one of Mumbai’s most iconic auditoriums – The Shanmukhananda Hall. This hall has seen some of the best musicians, dancers, and artisans from India and abroad perform and entertain. The market is lined with several cloth shops and if you are visiting for the first time, it’ll take a little while to get familiar with the winding inner lanes. In that case, it is best to start with a full market survey and then start shopping. It will be good to remember the shop number of the shop you like. The cloth shops offer both ready stitched clothes and material that you can get stitched. Indian wear dominates the market to a good extent. You’ll find lehengas, Kurtis and salwar suits hanging around everywhere. Many of the shops will also show you ‘designer’ wear that was showcased in the latest movies. You can look at the catalog and instantly recognize which celebrity has worn which saree! You’ll not only get a replica but also get to choose colors for variety. This is a ‘street’ market so don’t expect a lot of cleanliness, especially in the rainy season. As you walk further on the main road outside the market, you’ll also find several lingerie and shops lined up. Because of the proximity to the G.N.Khalsa College, you might find students hanging out here, especially around the limited food stalls. From sandwiches to dosas to pani puris, you’ll find a lip smacking treat waiting for you after your shopping. Right next to these food stalls are open street shops for bags and shoes. They don’t come with a guarantee but work fine if all you need is a stopgap variety. The shops sleepily begin opening by 11 am and stay open until 10 pm. Getting there: The closest railway station is Kings Circle, which comes under the harbour line set of trains in Mumbai. You won’t find any autos as this falls in the area after Mahim.   • If you thought that with the arrival of Amazon, Myntra , Jabong & other e commerce sites in India , girls would prefer to sit at home and shop, then think again. A visit to Fashion Street in Mumbai can tell you a different story. Fashion Street in Mumbai – Well, the name says it all. It is every teenager and college goer’s dream shopping destination. It is similar to shopping in Janpath and Sarojini Nagar in Delhi. Located just a stone throw from the Churchgate Station and the famous Gymkhana Sports Club, it is a popular Mumbai shopping market among tourists and locals alike. It is a cluster of shops 300 + shops that stretch for over one km. Famous for its ready-made dresses & tops, it also boasts of a wide variety of imitation jewellery , cosmetics, bags, wallets & watches, belts, and shoes. From shopping for babies to shopping for modern women, Fashion Street can cater to a variety of shopping requirements. In the year 2011, Fashion Street also signed on to the green movement and stop using plastic bags. Now they use either paper bags or other bags which are biodegradable. Up until a few years back, it was only famous for the cheap clothing and bargain hunting. Fashion Street has upped its game now and branded apparel is available in plenty.Apparel from international brands that are manufactured in India and are probably export rejects are also available If you are interested to check out pieces of denim, the fabric that is universally loved by men,women& teenagers , then you should try the cluster of shops in the middle of this shopping market.It is directly opposite to the bus lane. They have rompers, jumpsuits, jeggings, dresses and also a variety of normal jeans. The leggings start from as low as Rs200/piece, jeans are at Rs 700/pair. You can bargain too. The only downside is that they do not have any trial rooms. You can always ask for a receipt if you wish to return the jeans at a later date after trying it on. Ahh now for imitation jewellery. Fashion Street has a lot of fashion accessories such as payal( anklet) and toe rings that are in vogue. Handmade jewellery is available at rock bottom prices.Men’s accessories & shoes here at extremely reasonable prices. Cross over to the other side of Fashion Street. That is where you are likely to find footwear and bags. From simple jute bags to funky bags, there are literally heaps of bags.One of the attractions on this stretch are the purses. Bags & purses in all shapes sizes & colours are available at the most reasonable prices.You can buy one for every day of the week. Look for ethnic sling side bags with traditional embroidery & embellishments. Again, it will cost only Rs 300/bag. Next, look for footwear at the beginning & end of the street. This is where they sell sandals for as low as Rs100 a pair. They may not last too long though. You would be very truly astonished by what Rs 2000 can do to boost your wardrobe after a trip to Fashion Street. You could have very well bought your wardrobe for half the year. But be warned that you will have to wade through crowds of enthusiastic shoppers, salesmen shouting at the top of their voices and not very comfortable surroundings . What to do after your Fashion Street shopping After all the handwork, if you are in need of some local refreshments, head to the main entrance of the Gymkhana Club, alongside Fashion Street . The Rs 30 pizza and a staple called vada Pav are the local favourites. Or if you walk towards the Gateway of India, there area a number of restaurants starting from McDonalds to fine dining. How to Reach Fashion Street is at a walking distance from the CST Station and the Churchgate Station.
