Treasure is a small Pondicherry shop . The owners are from Kashmir. They stock authentic pashmina shawls ,woolen shawls and carpets. They definitely have a good collection of shalwls. While some are just plain shawls others come with embroidery and lace work . Pashmina refers to a type of fine cashmere wool and the textiles made from it. They were first woven in India. These shawls are made of Pashm or Pashmina, which is the wool of a species of the wild Asian mountain goat,which is a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayas in India, Nepal and Pakistan. Pashmina shawls are hand spun, woven and embroidered in Nepal and Kashmir.
Pure pashmina is a rather gauzy, open weave, as the fibre cannot tolerate high tension. The most popular pashmina fabric is a 70% pashmina/30% silk blend, but a 50/50 combination is also common.They are known for their softness and warmth.

” Janaki is a project to promote conscious and sustainable living. This is a very spacious store on two floors. Garments, pottery, aromatherapy products, hair and skin care products and pottery are available in the store On display are garments designed and manufactured in Auroville by several designers.So there are jackets, tops, palazzo pants and skirts . Designer Upasana and her collection is prominently showcased. Made of premium cotton with attractive prints , the collection is definitely worth a look . Ayurvedic home care products are also promoted in this outlet. Face creams, bath and body products , skin care essentials , aromatherapy products and speaciality teas are all available. On the first floor is a section, for furniture items like dining tables and consoles. Trees that were uprooted during the severe cyclone that hit Pondicherry some years ago , have been used in making some of these furniture pieces . The wood is Acacie – (Acacie auriculiformis) Each piece of wood is carefully sanded and wax polished to heighten the golden colour of the wood. They also stock bowls and jars made from Rohida wood . Rohida is a rare, dense grained wood.The Rohida tree is self propagating. Bowls and vessels made from this wood are supposed to be hygienic and were apparently used by Jain monks. Tibetan style lacquered offering bowls are very attractive. In addition , there is a huge section of pottery from Auroville on display. The Tea pots and cups, coasters and plates that are for sale have beautiful earth tones that are aesthetically appealing . when you visit Janaki, you will understand why Pondicherry shopping is a pleasurable experience.
