Kasha Ki Aasha (meaning Kasha’s dream in Hindi) was conceptualized and started by Kasha Vande. Kasha, who is an American, was visiting Pondicherry in 2004 when she laid her eyes on a beautiful restored property and her dream of settling down in Pondicherry and starting a small scale business began to take shape. Typical of homes in the South of India, it has a small courtyard in the center, with a lot of green plants and palms and creepers and humming birds to complete the picture.
The ground floor has an eclectic range of handmade products like cotton tunics and casual wear clothes, ideal for the summer months. These garments are sourced from several NGOs that employ women and some of them are created in house by the women employees themselves.
Then there is a range of personal products like soaps and shampoos made from locally grown produce. Footwear and leather bags are casually displayed in another section of the ground floor. There are 4 to 5 separate enclosures with clothes, shawls, jewellery, bags, ,home accessories and books.
The prices are very affordable.
Kasha also promotes Indian photography through posters, magazines and exhibitions around the world. And then there is the restaurant on the green terrace. Laid back cushions and ample space makes it an ideal place to sip a cappuccino, enjoy freshly baked cakes and engage in interesting converstaions.
