Weavers Studio is a luxury apparel store. They stock very up market, expensive, elegant and sophisticated apparel. In other words, the sarees, kurtas, kaftans & salwar suits are exclusive with understated elegance.
Tussar, silk & cotton are the fabrics that Weavers Studio choses to work with. Tussar is a semi rough silk that can be dyed in multiple colours. The main focus of the founder Darshan Shah is to preserve rich ancient textile techniques. Hence the name Weavers Studio. The Studio has a unit in the outskirts of the city, where they employ weavers to fabricate the beautiful textiles. The fact that it has been in existence for 30+ years, tells you about the quality & the loyal customers.
The store is itself situated in a quiet residential area known as Ballygunge. It is a nondescript store on the 2nd floor. You may be disappointed that it is not a large store with several garments. However, what they stock is exclusive. You will not find 2 pieces that are alike. Weavers Studio is great store for the discerning customer looking for quiet luxury. It is sheer joy to see the colours, designs & feel the texture.
Japanese Shibori @Weavers Studio
Darshan Shah says that Japan has been a great source of inspiration for her products. As a matter of fact, she has learnt the Shibori dyeing technique from Japan and has used it extensively in her garments. She says “My business started with Japan, my sensibilities developed there, towards fine quality of design, minimalism, high standards of materials and craft”.
Dyeing, weaving & embroidery has been her focus. For instance, Kantha stich has also been extensively used in several garments, such as in sarees & dupattas.
They also have salwar suits in printed silks with very beautiful dupattas. Shaded silks with shibori designs are beautiful & attractive. In addition, they stock stoles & scarves in silk and cotton. They have a wide range of sarees in pastel shades with Kantha stitch embroidery and other designs. Saree blouses in exclusive prints are also in stock here. Shabana Azmi is one of their well-known customers.

You can also check out jackets, kurtis, tops & trousers, kaftans & dresses. You can select the fabric & the kind of work too. The fabrics could have prints, kantha work or shibori prints. They have an online presence as well.
