Byloom is the leading name for handloom sarees & furnishings in Kolkata. It is a small 2 storied shop in the quiet lanes of Gariahat. Coffee shops & art galleries dot this residential area. Interestingly, the shop is in a lane right opposite Good Earth. Byloom focuses exclusively on handloom products and on natural Indian fabrics.
Children’s clothing @Byloom
In the ground floor, you would find, stoles & dupattas in matka silk with beautiful batik designs. Stoles & dupattas are in the Rs600-Rs1000/piece. Dresses for girls would include skirts & blouses in matka silk & cotton. Shirts for young boys in vibrant & colourful prints are very attractive. Men’s wear such as shirts are also available here.
Furnishings
They also stock, furnishings such as bed spreads and ready made curtains in pleasing colours & prints. The patchwork kantha stitch on the bed covers are particularly stunning and is available in a variety of colours. Throws & cushion covers in patchwork cottons are other ‘must buys’ in this store.
Accessories in Byloom
Cloth bags with beautiful animal & bird prints in handloom cotton are available in attractive colours. Further, at a time when people discard plastic bags, cloth bags are a good alternate.
Sarees, fabrics & blouses @Byloom
The sarees and dress materials are available on the first floor. The fabrics used are cotton, cotton silk, Matka silk, Khadi cotton, Tussar and muslin. The sarees are further embellished with kantha stitch, unusual prints & block printing. The colour combinations are unusual & stunning. They would be in the Rs 2500-Rs3300 price range on an average. In addition, ready to wear blouses in cotton, silk & Banarasi fabrics are really beautiful.
Jewellery @Byloom
They stock a small collection of beaten brass earrings in unusual designs. The crochet earrings & neckpieces are extremely attractive & would be coveted by youngsters today. Bangles in cotton with thread work is another standout.
