When you are shopping in Chennai for exclusive silk organza sarees or attractive fabrics or textiles , head straight to the Signoraa shop. There are two Signoraa shops. One is on the main Nungambakkam High Road and the other, the Signoraa fabric shop , is in the lane adjacent to the main road. There are cotton sarees from many Indian states , Bengal cotton sarees , cotton Kota sarees , silk Kota sarees from Rajasthan and simple silk cotton sarees too. There are some distinct and expensive cotton sarees that are available in the Signoraa shop. On the first floor are a collection of chiffon, georgette, organza , tussar and Banarasi silk sarees. Signoraa is particularly known for their silk organza designer sarees . While the collection is limited, the selection is very good and again very distinct . The silk organza sarees are in the Rs 5000 to Rs 10000/piece price range . Some of their silk sarees cost upwards of Rs 15000/piece. The Signoraa fabric store is a treasure house for fabrics . The fabrics can be used for salwar kameez, kaftans , blouses, gowns and whatever. Gone are the days when women wore plain cotton blouses or the blouses that came attached with the sarees . There is growing trend to wear distinctly attractive blouses now. It is not the saree alone, the saree blouse is also an important piece of garment that has to carefully planned and tailored. The Signora fabric store is quite a large store . Plain cotton fabrics , ekat fabrics, tie & die fabrics , Banarsi fabrics and fabrics with shiny sequins are all available here. The range is vast and collection is very good. The Banarsi silk and cutwork gold Banarsi fabrics are in the Rs 1000/meter price range

Kanakavalli is a luxury store for bespoke Kanchivaram silk sarees. Ahalya, the owner is a seasoned curator of Kanjivaram sarees and designer jewellery. The store in spurtank road, chetpet, Chennai is the flagship store . This is an old style Chennai house that has been converted to a boutique store .It has high ceilings, mosaic floors and teak wood doors. As you drive in through the garden, you can get a glimpse of the stately home and the surrounding garden. You can shop in serene and spacious surroundings for Kanjivaram saris and gold jewellery in this Chennai shop. The lounge has exquisite designer jewellery in gold ,set with precious stones. The experience is very different as the attendants walk around the rooms,showing you the special pieces and explaining their uniqueness.As you walk into the main showroom , you are greeted by another set of attendants. Again, it is an unhurried atmosphere, with the attendants explaining the various weaves and origin of the saris. Kanjivaram sarees are woven silk saris with intricate patterns and rich gold borders . They are 6 yards in length . The collection includes, high end designer saris in traditional designs. The colours and colour combinations are contemporary. The saris can cost up to Rs 75000/piece.
